Portable Document Format (PDF) is the open standard way of printing and viewing documents on different devices whilst maintaining the exact structure and appearance of the original.

Creating a PDF file

There are several ways of creating a PDF file from your document.

You may already have a PDF save option in your program. Just do "Save as" and chose PDF.

A second way is to have a PDF driver installed on your system in which case it's as simple as chosing the PDF printer instead of your normal printer from your print options. The file isn't printed but is saved as a PDF. There are several freeware programs availalable on the web

There are various commercial software packages such as Adobe Acrobat but these can be expensive.

The third way is to use online conversion sites, some are free whilst others charge a small amount. You merely upload your file and it is returned to you converted to PDF, usually via email.
